Ash's Charizard belonged to a Trainer named Damian, Back them it was just a Charmander. Damian left it on a rock because he thought that it was weak. Ash found him and told Damian that Pokemon were friends, not tools for battle. When Ash saw Charmander again, it was stuck under the rain.
